VA Disability Benefits Research Specialist & Consultant
Marsha S. Martin is an Army veteran, advocate, and founder of You Are Still a Veteran (YASAV), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans understand their rights, navigate the VA system, and pursue the benefits they earned through military service.
Marsha served 11 years in the United States Army. During her time in service, she experienced a difficult period that resulted in a felony conviction and ultimately a Bad Conduct Discharge. As a result, she spent 462 days of her life in a 48-square-foot room that held only a bed, desk, wall locker, toilet, sink, and mirror.
That experience forced deep reflection and personal accountability. It also became the foundation for a powerful personal transformation.
After rebuilding her life, Marsha committed herself to service once again, this time helping veterans navigate the complex systems that determine access to benefits, healthcare, and support after military service.
Through You Are Still a Veteran (YASAV), Marsha works to ensure that veterans receive clear, accurate information about VA disability claims, discharge review options, and available resources. Her work focuses on education, advocacy, and community outreach so that veterans are equipped with the knowledge they need to move forward with confidence.
While YASAV serves veterans across the spectrum, Marsha is especially passionate about helping those who have been told their discharge status or past mistakes disqualify them from assistance.
Her message is simple: Your service still matters.
Today, Marsha continues to expand YASAV’s impact through educational programs, veteran outreach, claims clinics, and partnerships with organizations committed to ensuring that no veteran is left behind.
“Our mission is to ensure that every veteran, regardless of discharge status or past circumstances, has access to accurate information, advocacy and a path forward.”
What We Stand For (MVP)
To equip all Veterans, regardless of discharge status, with the knowledge and structured preparation necessary to pursue the VA benefits they are legally entitled to.
A future where every Veteran is met with fair review, informed guidance, and the opportunity to live with dignity and purpose.
We advocate for equity through preparation. We educate Veterans on how review systems work, equip them to navigate those systems effectively, and provide disciplined support throughout the process. At YASAV, advocacy is action and preparation is the standard.
